Some scars cut right to the heart.
Three years after her divorce, Chaili Bennett is over her ex. Her only problem now? Of the few men she’s dated since, no one “gets” her. Not like Marc Archer—a man who’s never seen her as more than a friend.
Marc Archer needs a date for a last-minute charity event, and he needs it fast. Not that women aren’t throwing themselves at his world-famous face and body, but sometimes it’s less messy—as in less personal—to use his sister Shera’s escort service.
The last woman on earth Marc expects to see in his sister’s office is Chaili. There’s something different about her, but nothing pleases him more when Shera sets them up. That simple date quickly evolves into much more as they both discover the other fills a deep, secret need they’ve shared with no one else.
Though Chaili insists one night is all she wants, Marc isn’t walking away now. Not until he discovers what put the shadows in her eyes. And the scars on her soul.
Warning This book involves soulful songs, soulful sex, a soulful singer and lots of heartbreak. But no worries, there’s a happy ever after.

So I'll bet when you saw the title of this book you thought this would be yet another story about a bad boy rock star with an emotionally scarred childhood. Nope. Wrong. Marc had a great childhood and has achieved all of his dreams of making a success with his music. And yet, he can't seem to make a relationship work.Enter Chaili - best friend to Marc's sister as well as being Marc's friend for over 20 years. Twenty years that she's spent being secretly in love with Marc and hoping he would notice her. When it became apparent to her that he never would notice her in "that way" she jumped into an ill-fated marriage with a guy she didn't truly love. The husband heartlessly divorces her and 3 years later, she and Marc find each other.
I really don't like spoilers in reviews so I don't want to give away where the beautiful scars come in to the story but I will say that it was a refreshing change to see this subject handled so beautifully. And that tatoo was all kinds of awesome.
I enjoyed the story, short as it was, but didn't feel like it ever really went anywhere. I'll stop short of saying it was dull - because it wasn't - but it wasn't an exciting read, either. I felt their connection, so that was good. The sex scenes were okay (even if I'm kind of over the whole BDSM thing these days) so that was good. It's just that there were things that were brought up for no apparent reason. For example, Marc's color blindness. I thought that issue was going to come into play somewhere later in the book but it didn't - so I don't get why we were even told the details of it in the first place. Or that they go to a sex club and I think things might perk up but they spend all their time in a private room doing nothing too exciting. Might as well have gone to a hotel, in my opinion. Just those types of things. And then it ended rather abruptly. I turned the page looking for the next chapter and there wasn't one. Odd.
So while I am not gushing with love for this book, I definitely didn't hate it either. It was OK and worth a read.

Beautiful Scars edition by Shiloh Walker Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I still remember this book and I read it years ago. It is truly an inspiring and beautiful read, yet tackles a very real and confronting reality for many women. The cover doesn't do it justice as while it's a steamy read, it's not about the chemistry it's about the journey both main characters have gone through to end up where they are now. I thoroughly enjoy it and think everyone women should read it. I am sorry I'm a little obtuse but I don't want to give away any of the plot or provide an spoilers
I've never been a regular reader of Shiloh Walker but I'm going to change that, her books are well written and carry a pointed and challenging storyline. I've read a lot of erotic books and are all just that! No storyline to speak of, this book is not that!
Chaili Bennett and Marc Archer grew up together, she was the best friend of his sister and knew him when he had a school band, he's in the big time now and she doesn't see him often but she's always cared about him. But Chaili has more to do than moon over Marc, she has a living to earn and bills to pay. However when Mark needs a date for a party, Chaili volunteers to go - through his sister who has an escort service (not that kind!).
Chaili has had terrible challenges after her divorce and illness she has to start over and she is managing but it has been difficult. Mark missed all of that because he doesn't come home often but when he takes Chaili on his date, he starts to remember what she meant to him.
There are misunderstandings and arguments, a disgusting ex-husband but the story is solid and you will like it. Its very different!
Shiloh has a knack for bringing characters who have major flaws and issues to light. Both of our leads have problems but under everything is a love that has been simmering for years hidden behind friendship and distance.
I just have to start by saying - Marc is a complete and utter ass. Ok that's out of the way, we can move on and explain why you'll still fall in love with him and why Challi has always loved this amazingly frustrating man. He's an amazing musician who is back in his hometown for a brief respite before doing what he does best and running back away. He's convinced that he is somehow only able to hurt those closest to him and keeps avoiding the people who love him and know him best for fear of driving them away. He's got to go to a party and his previous arrangement has decided to leave him the morning of the event to go after something that could be a real relationship rather than an itch scratch arrangement. He visits his sister who runs a respectable escort service to get someone to act as the buffer for him at the event and that is where the story takes flight.
Challi has always known she loves Marc, truly deeply adores this man with all that she is including all his flaws. She has always buried it except for 3 disastrous times she asked him out. Unfortunately for her his inability to see what was under his nose caused her to settle for a man who isn't even worthy of mentioning by name. This jerk leaves her at a time where she needed him and this has left her extremely scarred and doubting her own self-worth. She has shadows that haunt her both physically (not telling you why physically as it plays a part in the amazing transformation Marc helps her through) and mentally. She hears that he needs a date for this party and persuades Shera to let her do this. When the two of them spend time together again it erupts in to an amazing night that ends with Marc doing his trademark foot in mouth.
I'm not going to give away the rest as I think you need to go out and read this one to see a beautiful story of love and healing for two very flawed individuals. My only wish was to see more of them in the future but at the same time I loved the way it resolved and wanting more is just testament to how Shiloh can draw you in to loving her characters.
